The specialty of Pediatric dentistry developed to address the special concern for children’s dental health. Most of the dental diseases and problems associated with the developing dentition have their origins during childhood. Therefore, special understanding and care is required of childhood dentistry.

In India and most other developing countries, the dental health of children has been neglected. The dental college curriculum must offer a significant syllabus in this area of dentistry.A strong background in the development and growth of dentofacial structures, timely prevention and interception of iatrogenic problems and dental diseases will prepare the dental professionals to adequately deal with the dental health problems of children.

The Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry was established in 1992 with the aim of comprehensive training for both undergraduate and post graduate students and to enable them to effectively deal with the oral and dental problems encountered in a child with a special emphasis on differently abled children. The department is involved in teaching the students, research and providing comprehensive dental treatment to pediatric patients.

We are dedicated to promote oral health care through education, research and oral rehabilitation with tender loving care of children in particular as well as community at large. We have prioritized the staff to render oral health care and anticipatory guidance to the children with special care needs. Our inspiration and driving force to this mission being “Man never stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child”.

Our mission is to advocate guidelines, and programs and implementation of the same in order to promote optimal oral health and oral health care for the children to make an oral disease free population for tomorrow.
